DDoS extortion

Another article has been published over the pay up or be DDoS’d scenario. This to me is another perfect example of Internet myth. Much as I mention in my comment on that news thread, there are some excellent products out there that will help mitigate these types of attacks. Have no illusions here, there is a lot of money involved in offshore gambling, which is a prime target apparently, of these DDoS extortion attempts. Where there is money, there is Internet security talent to be found. With that talent comes solutions. So the question is, are there really that many DDoS extortion attempts which result in payoffs? I think not.
