Anti-spyware legislation

Well once again it seems that the US is ahead of the curve when it comes to legislation involving computers. This time there will soon be some laws that will levy substantial penalties against purveyors of spyware. This is of course long overdue as spyware has in and of itself generated a market for its eradication. Simply put though, there should be no need for this. Software vendors who install this type of malware (yes it is malware in my books) should be heavily fined and if appropriate sent to jail. Only then will this type of "add-on" feature disappear from software programs.
