EEye offers free end point security solution
It was pretty nice to see eEye offer a free end point security solution for personal use. eEye is a very good company and has some excellent product offerings. You may have heard of Marc Maiffret who is their Chief Hacking Officer (CHO). He is a seriously talented hacker plus a nice guy, and I for one would definitely recommend any product that comes from his company. End point security is becoming more of a concern as browsers have become the focus points of many more attacks over the past year and a bit. Browser security is an issue that is not going away, and as I have said before, you really should harden your network from the work station on out. Give the free program a whirl, I’m sure you’ll like it.

Don, thanks for the articles as they always add to the endless horizon of security information. I had never heard of eEye until your blog entry. I took you advice, and gave the program a ‘whirl’. It’s absolutely incredible and I highly recommend it. I tested it’s system firewall ability and application firewall and it passed every exploit I attempted. I posted the review at http://www.alcatrazsecurity.net/content/46.php. Feel free to remove the link, if it’s not allowed.
It brings up an interesting topic I think, and it this: Where is antispyware’s place, and can intelligent application firewalls replace antispyware applications totally?
I would love to hear your comments on that subject. Thanks again.

Hi Anthony,
In my opinion a firewall’s only role is to control both ingress and egress communications. That though does not extend to a computer in the trusted Intranet initiating an outbound connection. Those outbound connections could be filtered at the router, or if you have a highend firewall at that level as well. That said, that role is best addressed by an anti-spyware solution vice a firewall, or an intelligent application firewall. Thanks for writing in, and nice review of the eEye offering btw.
