Ethereal now known as Wireshark

Well Ethereal one of the best known and widely used opensource security programs has been renamed to Wireshark. I have no idea why they would want to rename it as Ethereal is so widely known. Really seems kind of strange. Oh well, I am sure they have their reasons, but…… Anyhow, give the below noted link a read to get the full story. Man, this is like nmap calling itself packetwrench. Just doesn’t make sense…

    Hey Don,

I saw somewhere that the author moved companies, and took ethereal with him. Unfortunately, his previous employer owned the ethereal name.

    regards
    tut.

    Hi Tuta!

Bummer that the fellow owned the Ethereal name. Ah well, at least they are still offering a pretty excellent piece of s/w for free. Take care :-)
