Metasploit is an opensource platform which can be used for a variety of purposes. One excellent use of this tool is for penetration testing, and IDS/IPS testing. It really is an awesome piece of software. The best part also is that it is free. HD Moore and spoonm amongst others have generously given of their billable time to create this tool for the community. It would be great if we could all kick in a dollar or two for them to help further Metasploit. I put my money where my mouth is by donating last year, and will be doing so again soon. Literally every dollar helps as that one dollar can amount to a large sum if many people give a dollar or two. On that note, please help support Metasploit!
